How to add Flash to your site

We suggest you use SWFObject to embed Flash in your site: it's clean, simple and standards-compliant. Please read the instructions detailed over SWFObject for how this works, and please note our stance on Flash is if you know how to produce Flash then you know how to embed it in a site - we can't assist anymore than what is detailed here.

You need to add the following line to the Header code of your site in order to make the SWFObject library available globally to your site:

<script type="text/javascript" src="/default/js/swfobject.js"></script>

We've added the JavaScript file to our default library so there is no need for you to upload it to your site too - simply reference the one above.

Next step is to figure out where you want to place your Flash movie, and which existing element you want to replace with your Flash movie. Upload your swf-file to where you want to render it, or alternatively upload it to the Skin settings should you want to make it available everywhere.

Now simply follow the SWFObject instructions: determine which HTML element will 'hold' the Flash movie: in many cases either the #logo or #header element. The content placed in the 'holder' element will be replaced by the Flash content upon load, so users with the Flash plug-in installed will never see the content inside this element. This feature has the added bonus of letting search engines index your alternate content.
